Naby is a multidisciplinary art gallery. It opened during the Corona pandemic, when social distancing was in place and there were limited opportunities to be in closed spaces. This alternative gallery offers a personal, spontaneous and direct meeting space for artists from different disciplines. The gallery aims to make art accessible to the people, outside of closed spaces, within various public locations.

 

We are experiencing a change in the world of art consumption. During the last few years, we have witnessed the movement of street art (graffiti) off the streets and into exhibition halls. Naby Gallery aims to promote the reverse movement; to move the art out of closed exhibition spaces and onto the streets, to become part of the public arena which is increasingly an area of art consumption. The exhibitions in the gallery will be printed and displayed outside in the format of a sticky poster, with the possibility of connecting to a website through augmented reality.

 

The exhibition space has an important influence on the watchful gaze. Therefore, a change in the exhibition space can change one’s gaze, resulting in a possible change in the interpretation of the works on display. Moreover, seeing these images outdoors may develop spontaneous conversation with others which is less likely to occur in a classical setting.

 

The notion of time also changes. There is an evolution in our concept of time due to technological, economic and social reasons, which directly affect the way in which we view art and the methods in which art is produced. Naby’s exhibitions take place in various geographic locations simultaneously, in Israel and around the world. Audiences may view the same image at the same moment in time but in different places, all while scrolling through the exhibition website on the internet. Naby exposes well known and established artists alongside beginner artists in the various fields of art and from all over the world.
